Frequently Asked Questions

Male versus Female

Husky males are generally larger than females as adults. We have not noticed or received any feedback about temperaments and personalities differing or being gender specific. We recommend you neuter/spay your pet and that can neutralize some of the gender differences as well.

At what age can the puppies have visitors?

We feel that in order to maintain healthy dogs, the puppies and their mom need 3 weeks after the birth before they are prepared for visitors.

Are the parents on site?

Yes, you will always be able to see the puppies’ mom and dad.

Are your Puppies sold on a Spay/Neuter Contract?

No, we do not sell our puppies on a spay/neuter contract. We do highly recommend spay/neuter because we feel it will make a better pet as well as save your pet from health issues down the road. We do sell our dogs on a Non-Breeding agreement with the CKC. If you want to breed please contact us before placing a deposit to discuss the possibility of getting a puppy with full breeding rights.

Are huskies easy to train?

Huskies are intelligent dogs and learn quickly. We’ve had buyers ask if we’d house-trained the puppies before they left the kennel because they were trained so easily. They are very picky dogs and like to keep themselves and their “den” clean. So that helps a lot with the training and housebreaking process. They can be stubborn as well but with time & consistency they are very receptive to training.

How soon can a puppy leave your kennel?

A puppy is old enough to leave its mom when it reaches 8 weeks of age, and has received its first vaccination needle.

Are your puppies OK with other animals and children?

Huskies get along fine with whatever they grow up with. Many of our puppy buyers have cats as well, and the cat and dog turn out to be great friends.

How big will a Siberian Husky grow?

Males range in height from 21-24 inches at the shoulder and weigh up to 60 pounds. Females stand from 20-22 inches and weigh 34-50 pounds. Of course it depends on genetics, our moms vary in size.

Do Siberian Huskies shed?

Yes, they do shed. Twice a year they “blow” their coat and during this time the shedding is very intense. If the dog is brushed regularly, it minimizes the shedding and loose hair floating around the house. Some people have trained their dog to be ok with a vacuum cleaner attachment being used for grooming, or taking a bath to loosen the hair. This can also help minimize the effects of shedding.

Does feeding my Siberian Huskies make them aggressive?

No, feeding raw dog food does not make your husky more aggressive. All the huskies at Husky Alpaca Ranch are fed raw, and they are friendly as can be. We believe that a raw diet is beneficial for our huskies and is closer to their natural diet.
